EX2 Electrical was proud to deliver the electrical installation package for the new state-of-the-art Hybrid Theatre at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. This £3.9 million healthcare refurbishment project created a highly specialised clinical environment designed to combine advanced diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures within a single operating space. The development included a dedicated Interventional Radiology (IR) Theatre, preparation room, anaesthetic room, control room, clean and dirty utility areas, associated storage facilities, and four patient recovery bays, providing a complete treatment pathway within one integrated facility.
Working within a live hospital environment above a fully operational Emergency Department presented significant technical and logistical challenges. EX2 Electrical collaborated closely with the main contractor, specialist equipment suppliers, and healthcare stakeholders to coordinate complex electrical services and support the installation of advanced medical imaging equipment. Careful planning and phased delivery ensured critical hospital operations remained uninterrupted throughout the 36-week programme.
Our works supported the specialist clinical systems, power infrastructure, lighting installations, and integrated building services required for this highly technical healthcare space. Extensive commissioning activities were coordinated alongside equipment manufacturers and project partners to ensure seamless operation of both clinical and building systems.
The completed facility will enable the hospital to treat approximately 1,200 additional patients each year, increasing surgical capacity, improving patient outcomes, and supporting the delivery of modern healthcare across Devon.
