EX2 Group Begins Renewable Energy Install at Quayside Leisure Centre

A major new install for our our Eco-Tech team

EX2 Group is pleased to announce the commencement of a new solar photovoltaic (PV) installation project at Quayside Leisure Centre in Kingsbridge, delivered in partnership with South Hams District Council as part of the Council's ongoing decarbonisation programme.

Starting today, the project will see the installation of a 189.10 kWp rooftop solar PV system on the leisure centre's main building. The scheme has been designed to help reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions and support the long-term sustainability of the facility through the generation of clean, renewable electricity.

Delivering Renewable Energy for the Community

Once operational, the solar PV system is expected to generate approximately 184 MWh of renewable electricity annually, supplying around 46% of the site's annual electricity demand. The installation is also forecast to reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 35.6 tonnes of CO₂ per year—equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting more than 1,600 trees annually.

The project will be delivered by EX2 Group's Eco-Tech division, specialists in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies across the South West. The installation will utilise advanced solar technology, including module-level monitoring, integrated Arc Fault Detection, and SafeDCT™ safety technology, helping to maximise performance while enhancing safety for the building, staff and visitors.

The completed system will comprise 316 high-performance solar PV modules connected to a SolarEdge optimised inverter system, enabling efficient energy generation from the available roof space.

Supporting South Hams District Council's Sustainability Objectives

The project represents another positive step in South Hams District Council's wider programme of carbon reduction and energy efficiency improvements. By generating clean electricity on-site, the leisure centre will reduce its reliance on grid electricity, helping to lower operating costs while supporting the Council's environmental ambitions.

As local authorities continue to seek practical decarbonisation solutions, renewable energy installations such as this demonstrate how public buildings can become more energy efficient, resilient and sustainable.

Keeping the Centre Open During the Works

EX2 Group has worked closely with South Hams District Council and the leisure centre management team to ensure the project can be delivered with minimal disruption to customers and staff.

  • Contractor compound: Located within the leisure centre car park for the duration of the works
