Innovation and passion from local schools

July 2025

We were proud to take part in the Ted Wragg Innovation Competition, hosted at the Exeter Future Skills Centre. A truly inspiring day welcoming students from across Devon.

Together with Exeter College and the Green Skills Advisory Panel, the event showcased the innovation and passion of local secondary school students, as they presented bold, creative ideas to tackle real-world challenges.

This year, teams were tasked with two exciting briefs:

  • Designing a Town for the Future
  • Creating a Climate Action Plan for a School

Their responses went far beyond expectation, highlighting energy-efficient homes, low-carbon transport networks, biodiversity initiatives, and whole-school sustainability strategies.

Representing EX2 Group on the judging panel was our very own James Rayner TMIET, who praised the students’ insight and ambition:

“Some of the children wouldn’t look out of place in a construction design meeting. Their knowledge of some quite complex innovations was impressive.”

At EX2 Group, we are passionate about nurturing the next generation of talent, and events like this are a fantastic way to spark interest in green construction, engineering, and future skills.

EX2 Group are members of the Green Skills Advisory Panel, that brings together industry, education, and policy experts to guide the development of sustainability-focused skills and careers for the region. The Ted Wragg Trust is a multi-academy trust committed to transforming lives through education and innovation.

A huge thank you to the Ted Wragg Trust, Exeter College, the Green Skills Advisory Panel, and everyone who helped organise the day. And well done to all the young innovators who took part.
