What it takes to manage, procure, manage, and deliver complex engineering projects
June 2025
At the end of June, we welcomed graduates and team members from Services Design Solution (SDS) to EX2 Group for a hands-on training and information day.
We invited them to our live site at the Energy Centre Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust for a CPD session to bridge the gap between design and delivery.
SDS are a respected building services design consultancy based in the South West, working across commercial, education, health, and residential sectors. At EX2 Group, we deliver the practical solution - electrical, M&E, and low-carbon projects, on construction projects across the region.
Andy Sisk EngTech LCIBSE, our Electrical Project Manager, set up the day to share knowledge within the industry, improving regional understanding and passing information between design and construction engineers.
Our goal, in line with the CIBSE charter, is to help SDS’s BIM, CAD, and graduate engineers better understand what happens after the design stage, what it takes to procure, manage, and deliver complex systems on the ground.
The day covered:
- Contractual responsibilities
- On-site installation processes
- Design coordination challenges
- Lessons learned from live projects
By seeing how we interpret and install what’s drawn, SDS’s early-career team gained valuable insight into practical installation, problem-solving, and site realities.
For us, it’s a chance to share knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and help align design and delivery more closely from the outset. This benefits our projects, clients, and future professionals alike.
Lewis Oatway Associate from the SDS team joined us.
"Thanks for setting this up, it was useful and insightful, and particularly important for our developing engineers to understand installation methods and coordination issues from the contractors perspective."
The EX2 Group look forward to continuing to build a trusted partnership.
